In this episode of Flourish In The Foreign, Amanda of The Black Expat shares her journey of being a Third Culture Kid and creating the Black Expat website.
Meet Amanda
As a third culture kid, Amanda’s interest in navigating cross-cultural spaces and identity started young. Her American-born, African raised perspective continues to have an influence as she provides the creative direction behind The Black Expat to reflect the nuances of black international living and tell the stories that need to be told.
In a previous life, Amanda worked for several non-profit organizations that addressed the challenges of poverty, education, and economic development in local communities. She is currently the founder & principal of Bates Consulting, Inc, a consulting practice that focuses on career development for the global nomad.
Amanda has been featured in a number of publications including the Wall Street Journal & Global Living Magazine discussing the intersections of black identity and living abroad. She has traveled to five continents, lived on three and most proud of her uncanny ability to recite 1990s music lyrics in the most random situations.
