Reva Watson shares her experiences of living abroad, from studying in China to settling in Trinidad.
Meet Reva
I’m Reva—an architectural designer and bamboo enthusiast, project manager, and a mom. Originally from Jamaica, I spent time studying in China with my partner before settling in Trinidad and Tobago, where we’ve grown into a family of five! Finding community and a true sense of belonging has been at the heart of my journey here.

What resources (books, blogs, services, apps) did you utilize to help you go abroad & thrive abroad?
I think understanding what the locals use to get what they need is important, for example, many businesses in Trinidad use Facebook as a marketplace. Understanding this allowed me to find mom groups and many services that were not publicly accessible.
What's something you wish people would ask you about your life abroad?
Does your energy match this place?
What wellness practices/mindset shifts have you adopted to support your wellness, sustainability, and longevity abroad?
Following your interests is important to finding community in a new space. When I moved to Trinidad, I immediately joined a yoga group that I have consistently attended and actively joined mom groups to meet people with the same interests and experiences. Doing what you love allows you to align well with people who enjoy the same things and helps to form community which creates the sense of belonging.
What is the motto (affirmation, prayer, poem, song lyrics, etc.) that you live by?
I am a magnet; my thoughts and desires have the power to be anything I dream.
